I have recently been watching some videos about the homebrew channel and I am tempted to install it to my Wii. However, I am a bit cautious what it will do to my Wii if something goes wrong(ex. delete other channels, erase game memory, etc.) Does anyone have a bit more knowlegde about the homebrew channel that they would like to share?

Ok, first of all, I do not support homebrew at all. Just out of interest, I tried it once, and it has enabled me to watch DVD's on my wii. However, people can take advantage of this technology and some people use it to get wii ware and virtual console games for free. I know one person that did this, and they bricked their wii. Luckily for them, they have a laptop with 1 terabyte of memory, and a Intel Core 2 Quad Processor, meaning that they can run the wii on their pc. Remember that misusing the homebrew channel voids your warranty, so be careful what you do. Also, you can't install any new channels or games with the new Wii home update. You need to go back to a previous update where the SD card icon was not there. I have done this before, so that i could use new channels, and then updated again to the new update, and it worked fine. But when you get to the new update, DO NOT update it again, because it will stop you creating any new channels, unless if you downgrade again, and it can take quite a while. Also, keep in mind that if you brick your wii (black screen of death) your wii is useless.
Do not try any of this unless if you have a good knowledge of computers.

Yeah, I probably won't. In every vid I've watch with people who own the homebrew channel, they had to burn their games on backup discs and use the backup channel to play their games and I don't want to screw up my games like that.

Not only that, if Nintendo discovers the channel installed on your wii they'll cut you off from all online gameplay. They check your wii everytime you update it

That's why you don't update anymore after you installed it.

That's why you don't update anymore after you installed it. Although I have once, and Nintendo have yet to realise my homebrew channel. I think they are just trying to threaten the public so that less hacking occurs, unlike Microsoft who do ban loads of people on a daily basis.

I keep hearing about this. Where is it anyway? It's illegal right?
