Well, today is the day when HG and SS are released all across america, while we Brittish folks have to weight until not this friday, but the friday after until we can get our grubby little hands on it. However, after playing some of it through emulation, I have to say, it's a brilliant game. It gives me a strong sense of nostalgia, a trip back to the past to when I used to play the original Gold on Gameboy. That pokemon game was my all time favourite. I prefered it to all of the GBA and DS games put together, even the legendary Pokemon Blue.
After years of hoping that Nintendo would eventually bring back the Johto and Kanto regions, they eventually decided to give the old classics a DS update. With the addition of the pokewalker, it looks like the pokemon journey will never end.
But Game Freak are forgetting one thing - Crystal. Maybe a remake of that too? Well it certainly is possible, since a 3rd game was released in the Blue and Red series (Pokemon Yellow, with Pikachu following you around. Quite ironic since every pokemon you have can follow you in HG and SS...), obviously the Gold and Silver series, the GBA Ruby and Saphire series (Emerald, with some additions such as the ability to catch Groundon and Kyogre instead of just one), and in the DS series of Diamond and Pearl, the brilliant Platinum was released (This game gave the player a chance to travel to a different dimension and catch the legendary sky form of Giratina).
So yes, I do know a lot about the history of pokemon, but that's because I have grown up with these games.
Even though there are so many reasons to make a Crystal remake, there is also one big reason Nintendo might not bother. When the previous Gameboy games were re-released as part of a wireless adapter package for the GBA, Nintendo did not make a return to Pokemon Yellow. However, because Gold and Silver were the all time most popular Pokemon games of all time, and for good reason, I don't see why nintendo would decide to not cash in on another game. They have nothing to loose.
